  • Tips for International Students

    Obtaining a Student Visa

If you are an international student, you need a student visa to study in Australia. You need to apply for a student visa (subclass visa 500) with the Department of Home Affairs. Please visit Department of Home Affairs website to find out the requirements to apply for a student visa. Alternatively, please contact your agent to assist you with visa matters. The Document Checklist tool provided by Department of Home Affairs is a useful tool to check the requirements and supporting documents needed to apply for a student visa.

  • Course Duration

International students are required by law to be enrolled in full-time study in order to complete their course within the expected duration outlined in their electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE)

  • Reduced Study Load

If you are an overseas student and you wish to apply for part-time load, we can assess your situation if the reason is either compassionate/compelling; or you have intervention strategy put in place for your academic progress. You will need to consult with your Course Coordinator, or with Student Services team for welfare reason. The approved Reduced Study Load might impact the duration of your course and your visa, you should contact Department of Home Affairs to discuss about your student visa situation and Student Services team if you are required to get an extension of eCoE.

  • eCoE Variation

If you studied in part-time load, or failed in some of the unit(s); you may not be able to complete your course within the duration of your eCoE. You can request an extension by consulting with your Course Coordinator if it’s academic reason; or with Student Services if it’s welfare reason. If you have been approved Advanced Standing units post issuance of your eCoE, we will automatically adjust the duration of your study and reflect this changes in your eCoE.

It’s important to always know your visa validity, and lodge a visa extension well in advance of the expiry of your visa. Please contact Department of Home Affairs website for further information.
